Brownfield 2009
Brownfield Redevelopment Training Program
The Center for Environmental Education and Training (CEET), in partnership with St. Louis Community Colleges, has applied for a grant from the USEPA for a Brownfield Development Training Program. The program will provide training to unemployed and underemployed residents of Brownfield areas, enabling them to work in the remediation of these sites. The training will include topics such as ecosystem restoration, hazardous materials handling, asbestos and lead abatement. The awards for this intitiative will be announced early in July; if awarded, this program will begin in August 2009. To register your interest in this program, please click the link below.
EPA\'s Brownfields Initiative is an organized commitment to help communities revitalize abandoned contaminated properties, and to thereby eliminate potential health risks and restore economic vitality to areas where these properties exist. EPA defines brownfields as abandoned, idled or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. Successful Brownfield programs help to improve affected communities by eliminating environmental hazards, redeveloping properties, and providing jobs.

OSHA 500: Construction Safety and Health Trainer Course
This course is designed for personnel in the private sector interested in teaching the
10- and 30-hour construction safety and health outreach program to their employees
and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are
required in the 10 and 30 hour programs, as well as on those that are the most
hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Course participants are briefed on
effective instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts.
This course allows the student to become a trainer in the Outreach Program and to
conduct both a 10- and 30-hour construction safety and health course and to issue
cards to participants verifying course completion. Back to Course List
Note:
Students in Course #500 who wish to participate as authorized trainers in the
Outreach Program must successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course.
Outreach trainers are required to attend Course #502 at least once every four years to
maintain their trainer status. Those who are not interested in conducting the 10 and 30 hour programs should enroll in Course #510.

Course #510 or equivalent and five years of construction safety experience.

OSHA 501-Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health for General Industry
This course designed for private sector personnel presents detailed information on how
the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act may be implemented in the workplace. Rights and responsibilities under the OSH Act, the appeals process, and recordkeeping are covered. The course also includes an introduction to OSHA\\\'s general industry standards and an overview of the requirements of the more frequently referenced
standards. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the Outreach Program
and to conduct both a 10- and 30-hour general industry course and issue cards to
participants verifying course completion. Those who do not plan to train in OSHA\\\'s outreach program should take OSHA 511.
Note:
